The Father’s Food Closet is a ministry that provides food assistance to individuals and families that are in need. Current statistics show that over 370,000 people in the Memphis Mid-South Area are food insecure, meaning they lack access to a sufficient quantity of food to meet their own or their family’s needs. Of those 370,000 people, over 100,000 are children and 75,000 are elderly. As a ministry, we seek to show and share the love of Jesus by meeting one of the most basic human needs—food.  As a volunteer with FFC, you will have the opportunity to pack grocery bags, stock shelves, keep the pantry tidy, take food to cars on our monthly distribution day and pray with our food pantry guests. We also accept food donations in our drop-off box located in the church lobby. We have service opportunities that can fit into any schedule. Sidewalk Sunday School is a summer ministry, serving the Alcy-Ball community in South Memphis. Each Saturday morning, our team gathers at Alcy Park to play outdoor games, teach a short program with a Bible lesson and scripture verse and share a snack with the local children from the neighborhood. Throughout the summer, we have themed weeks that include a birthday party, multiple cookouts, lessons on self-respect and a back-to-school event where we give backpacks to all the children who have registered with us. In addition to our summer program, we also have a fall event in October with face-painting, food and a coat drive, as well as, a special event in December where we share the good news of Christ’s birth and give each child a Christmas gift.
